W B Cairnes’ and Elizabeth Matthew’s Children in Chronological order
There seem to be 15 children in all. William died aged 23 in Echuca in 1880, the same year as did his little sister Arabella Bellingham Cairnes 1879-1880.
Robert Matthews Cairnes 1868-1869, was also born in Castlemaine and died as an infant.
Montgomery Cairnes married, had 3 sons, and dies sometime after 1900 ; though there are no records of his death in any state of Australia. I have looked at Boer War records as his younger brother George Alexander has a record of being one of the Mounted Rifles that attended the Boer War. His wife and sons move to Perth and begin the Western Australian diaspora in the late 1990’s.
All in all, most of these children prospered, married, had children and often lived to a great age. Most stayed in Victoria, in particular in the Melbourne area. Flora and Emily move with their families to the Sydney area as does my grandfather Harry, after 10 years in Gunnedah NSW.
It would be wonderful to find out where all the family members have spread to now.
Any information, especially old family photos or letters are of great value in creating a vibrant picture of all their lives.
